TNG stops observation during September 2011 due to mirror aluminization

Starting 5th of September 2011 the three TNG mirrors will be dismounted to be aluminized.

This procedure will see the dismounting of all three mirrors from TNG structure and transport to the WHT telescope, where a full sized vacuum chamber is available.
The choice for the period is a compromise between time lost (actual length of the nights), safety during transport on the mountain (bad weather could be really dangerous!) and availability of the chamber in the WHT premises.
We foresee to complete the whole process before the end of the month.
